This morning, a guest arrived at our perfume workshop with a very specific intention.
When the instructor asked what kind of scent she wanted to create, she smiled softly and said, “No, not for me. I want to make something for someone else.”
He lives between France and Vietnam, she explained. From France, but constantly in transit, his life folding in and out of suitcases, cities, time zones. She wanted to create something he could carry with him – a scent that stays, even when everything else moves.
She came prepared. She had noticed the perfume he usually wears, paid attention to his style, his presence, the small details that make him who he is. From there, she worked with the instructor to shape a scent that would feel like him, and perhaps, something he didn’t know he needed yet.
The result is a scent she named Vagabonder.
The scent is a thoughtful balance. She chose a crisp, green freshness from fig tree that she knew he would appreciate, but she also tucked a bit of herself into the formula by adding Moroccan rose – a note she personally loves. It is grounded by oakmoss, giving it a classic, steady character that fits a well-tailored suit as much as a long flight.
To be loved is to be known, in the smallest details.
Now, when he is in a meeting in France or landing in Saigon, he carries this one and only perfume bottle with him – something constant, something known. A trace of her, a sense of home.
Just for him.
